"Panch" means five and "karma" means action. The ancient science of Ayurveda suggests that diseases formed in the body are due to the formation of toxins (ama). Cleansing of the body by removing toxins is highly recommended. The process of Panchkarma helps in the elimination of toxins from the body and thus prevents formation of disease. It is a cleansing therapy to strengthen the body's metabolic functions with herbal medicines and controlled food habits. Panchkarma is based on the therapy of elimination - when the wastes and the excess of Doshas are eliminated from our body we are coming back to our natural state of health.
The Panchkarma treatment is found to be helpful in chronic diseases where treatment with allopathic medicines has its limitations. In Ayurvedic terms, it also helps those who undergo a seasonal imbalance of Tri-Doshas.

This therapy cleanses the stomach and removes Kapha and Pitta from the chest. It is used for relieving pulmonary TB, and all lung conditions, Skin diseases (e.g. Eczema, Psoriasis, Leukoderma), Diabetes mellitus, Goitre, Tumours, Cough, Asthma, Obesity. It is one among Panchkarma therapies advised especially for 'Kapha' disorders. It is otherwise also known as Urdhwa Marga Shodhana. According to Ayurveda the best season for Vamana is at spring time. |

This important therapy is to treat blood and Pitta related diseases. In Pitta disorders such as skin, liver, spleen, and conditions like Gout, Headaches and Hypertension, bloodletting is immense useful and reflects the immediate and fruitful results. This treatment involves releasing toxic blood from various body sites, mainly from the back. Only through licensed physician this invasive procedure - Bloodletting is strictly administered. It is done either with the help of blunt or sharp instruments, or using Leeches. When blood becomes impure it can cause and spread diseases. Removal of impure blood benefits the body. Bloodletting is a helpful in removal of Pitta Dosha especially when it is in excess. When it is acute and it does not respond to the usual treatment then this therapy is helpful. Abhyangam |
Abhyangam is administered externally as the first preparatory therapy before panchkarma treatment begins. It may also be used as an independent therapy to alleviate Vata, Pitta and Kapha disorders. It is a body massage with medicated herbal oils, prepared according to body constitution to counter different diseases & for rejuvenation purpose. It increases blood circulation in the body.

Shiro Dhara |
Shirodhara is a titillating form of treatment, whereby the lukewarm herbal oil or therapeutic substance [medicated milk or medicated buttermilk] methodically drips along a coarse thread onto the forehead. The drops of oil from the thread drip directly onto the subject's third eye or the center of the forehead.
Vast and miraculous healing occurs when this technique is performed to perfection. The rhythm of oil trickling onto the third eye, which is the seat of cognitive vision, evokes deep cognitive memories. Through the arousal of these memories, bodily tissues are transformed and good health is restored inducing a total state of wellness.

Kizhi |
This treatment involves application of boluses of various ayurvedic preparations in a muslin bag containing herbal leaves -Ela-kizhi/herbal powders - Podhi kizhi or medicated keralian rice - Njavara kizhi heated & rubbed all over the body.

Netrabasti is the process of keeping fluids or unctuous substances in the eyes in a special herbal apparatus. This therapy improves the sight, heals stiffness, pain and roughness around the eyes and protects them against the sun's sharp rays.

Karna Purana is the process in which warm oil or medicated liquid is poured into the ears. This treatment improves hearing and stimulates the sense organs. It also calms the mind and helps to balance vata disorders.
